Nicoya Peninsula Region

The Nicoya Peninsula offers tourists sun and surf along with Tropical Dry Forest merging into Tropical Wet Forest. Recently this area has become more popular and infrastructure continues to grow, however if you want a low key vacation you will still feel as though you’ve stepped out of the rush and set your watch to Tico time. During the dry season, from Dec through April, there is little to no rain and the beaches are perfect for sun bathing. During the rainy season, from May through November, the surf is extra challenging for those who desire turbulent Pacific waves.

The town of Nicoya is the major urban centre for this area and is your first stop when driving onto the peninsula from the north. It is where you will find major businesses like the hardware store and other amenities that may not be available in local beach towns. If you are travelling over the Nicoya Gulf to reach the peninsula there is a town called Cobano that provides the southern portion of the peninsula with necessities.
